In connection with the upcoming exhibition based on John Cage that will open in Autumn 2009, John Cage and Experimental Art. The Anarchy of Silence, the MACBA hosted a monographic course on the figure of this multifaceted artist.
The role of John Cage (1912-1992) is fundamental for understanding the evolution of music and contemporary art throughout the 20th Century. His musical output and theoretical work are marked, on one hand, by a notion of process that helps to explain his break away from the traditional parameters of music, and, on the other, by his idea of silence and his approach to art in relation to life and to the transformation of thought.

En relación a la próxima exposición en torno a la figura de John Cage que se inaugurará en otoño de 2009, John Cage y el arte experimental. La anarquía del silencio, el MACBA ha acogido un curso monográfico sobre la figura de este polifacético artista.
El papel de John Cage (1912-1992) es fundamental para entender el devenir de la música y el arte contemporáneo a lo largo del siglo XX. Toda su producción y su labor teórica están marcadas por un lado, por su noción del proceso que ayuda a explicar su ruptura con los parámetros musicales tradicionales, y por el otro, su concepción del silencio así como su visión del arte en relación a la vida y a la transformación del pensamiento.
