Encina Milenaria

This document focuses in the acoustic exploration of one of the oldest trees in the province of Córdoba (ES),  known as the ‘Millenary ilex’. It is an unique specimen surviving in the area, dated several centuries old.

The ilex is located at around 2.5 km from ‘Los Llanos de Don Juan’, a small village which belongs to the town ‘Rute’. It is about 23 meters base circumference and 16 meters high.

Using field recordings of the internal activity in the trunk itself and acoustic events from its surroundings, I try to illustrate and introduce the audience into a lively sound experience. This work pays tribute to the resources used by nature for their own survival and to the existence of this tree as a witness of the passage of time, events and changing environment.
